team of 4 players, captained by Dave Horak,
participated in the King Leopold Challenge in Belgium.
National Tournament - April 2019
The Seniors Nationals were
hosted by Southern Cape in April 2019 and the team from Gauteng enjoyed the
local hospitality. The next tournament will be hosted by the Border Society in East
London from the 20th to the 23rd of April 2020 and Gauteng will be represented
by 38 members. We wish all participants good luck.
Matches
Both the matches held against
Gauteng North, at Royal Johannesburg in June and in Pretoria at Pretoria
Country Club in November, were won by Gauteng North.
The Triangular played at
Harrismith Golf Club was well attended and won by us. Well done to the team
captained by John Balderson.
A Quadrangular Tournament was
held in Parys in August with OFS, N. Cape and Gauteng North and 14 players from
each Society participated.

Home Course
We again record our sincere
appreciation to the Royal Johannesburg and Kensington Golf Club for the
privileges extended to our Society and members during the year. The Club has
extended these privileges to our Society for the upcoming year for which we are
highly appreciative.
Finance
Our thanks to Messrs Odendaal
and Company for their past support of our Society by
providing the required annual
audit of our accounts. They have very kindly agreed to continue this service
for the next financial year.
We confirm that the financial
statements present a satisfactory state of affairs of the Society. The Society
showed a loss of R26 718 for the year which is mainly attributable to the
decline in competition income and the need to increase the number of new
members. The committee has decided to increase the Competition fee from R30 to
R40 per game and to reduce the value of some of the prizes and in addition to
actively promote the addition of new suitable members to the Society.
Surplus Investments
The Committee continues to
invest a portion of the surplus funds that we currently have, in quality
equities with SA Stock Brokers.
Committee for 2020/21
In the terms of the
constitution, subject to confirmation at the AGM on the 15 March 2020, the
committee for the ensuing year will be:
·
President - John Balderson
·
Captain - Rohan Sheppard
·
Past President - John Marshall
·
Committee - Derick Finlayson, Pat
Cronin, Mike Renwick and
Rob Wassenaar
Jonathan Narayadoo
and Alan Houghton have indicated their willingness to join the
Committee and we very much
look forward to working with them.
In conclusion, I
wish to thank the members of the committee for their enthusiastic support and
attention to the affairs of our Society. It has been an honour and a privilege
to have worked with you. A special thank you to Frank for his capable
administration of the affairs of your Society and for his support during the
year.
I wish the incoming committee,
in the face of a changing environment, the strength and wisdom to protect the
ethos and principles of our great Society.
JOHN MARSHALL
